What are Matters Archive, Matters and Matters Select?

Matters Archive, Matters and Matters Select are three journals from Sciencematters.

The technical quality scoring (see: How does scoring on Matters work?) determines which journal the manuscript lands in. 

In general, manuscripts are categorized as followed:

  • Technical quality < 4: Matters Archive
  • 3 =< Technical quality < 7: Matters
  • 8 =< Technical quality =< 10

Matters and its editors preserve to downgrade or upgrade an article during the review process.

Authors can voluntarily publish their article in Matters Archive if they do not want to address issues the reviewers raised, even though with changes the manuscript would qualify for a higher journal.
